Special Travel Funds Available for Teachers to Bring
Toxicology into the Classroom
The Society of Toxicology (SOT) is pleased to announce
the availability of special travel stipends to assist several
teachers to attend the one-day “Paracelsus Goes to
School” teacher workshops at the SOT annual scientific
meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday, March
27, 2007. This unique program provides an opportunity to
meet with toxicologists and other educators, learn basic
toxicology concepts, and participate in interactive, hands-on
workshops that demonstrate how to integrate toxicology and
environmental health science into classes to stimulate student
interest in studying science in ways that meet national
science standards. For more information about the program
itself, including registration information, applicants are
encouraged to visite http://cf.unc.edu/cep/erp/registration/march2007/index.cfm.
This special travel award is made possible by a gift from
the Eastman Charitable Foundation to assist teachers living
outside of the immediate geographical area of the annual
Paracelsus workshops. These teachers could not otherwise
attend because travel costs or travel time would be prohibitive.
Other pertinent information
Applications will be accepted until all stipends are awarded.
However, earlier applicants may receive priority.
Intention and ability to implement and show others what
you will experience will be considered heavily in the final
selection.
Preference will be for teachers within driving distance
of Charlotte, and applications from teachers who will carpool
together are encouraged. Lodging for Monday night will be
provided for teachers who live over 100 miles from Charlotte.
Applicants living near locations of future SOT meetings may
be encouraged to wait to attend K-12 activities at that site
(Seattle 2008, Baltimore 2009, Salt Lake City 2010).
If you
have questions, please contact bettye@toxicology.org.
