SOT Sponsors Congressional Welcome Reception for SOT Past President Linda Birnbaum

More than 120 guests attended a Capitol Hill Welcome Reception for SOT Past President Linda Birnbaum on July 8, 2009. This reception was sponsored by SOT and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) to introduce Dr. Birnbaum to Members of Congress and Congressional staffers. Attendees included representatives from various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), staff members from the House and Senate, representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health. SOT Council was on hand to greet the Congressional members, and numerous SOT members from the Washington, DC metropolitan area also attended this tribute to Dr. Birnbaum. SOT President Cheryl Lyn Walker welcomed everyone to the reception and spoke about Dr. Birnbaum’s experience as a federal scientist for the past 30 years. Dr. Birnbaum was appointed last January to serve as the Director of the NIEHS and the National Toxicology Program. Congressman David Price (R-NC), the congressional host, welcomed Dr. Birnbaum and noted his support for NIEHS and the research that NIEHS conducts.
