ToxScholar and Guest Lecturer Programs Provide Speakers for Undergraduates
SOT supports toxicologist visits to undergraduate institutions to provide information about careers in toxicology through two programs. The Education Committee manages the Toxicology Scholar Program and encourages toxicologists—including graduate students and postdoctoral scholars—to identify undergraduate institutions in their region and work with faculty there to develop an event in which they can present information about careers in toxicology and introduce students to toxicology research. The Committee on Diversity Initiatives sponsors the Guest Lecturer Program, which is very similar but focuses on institutions with a high proportion of students from ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the sciences. Up to $500 is available to defray travel and event costs. More information, the application, and reports from previous visits are found at the Education Outreach section of the SOT Web site.
