SOT On-Line Mentoring System is Under Development
In continuing efforts to provide resources and training to the membership of the SOT, the Career Resource and Development (CRAD) Committee is making plans to develop a mentoring tool based on the lessons learned from the "pilot mentoring program" conducted in 2007 with the Postdoctoral Assembly. A Mentoring Subcommittee of the CRAD Committee was formed to review the outcome of that program and to determine a path forward for the Society. The goal of this CRAD Subcommittee is to help meet a key objective of the Society: to foster the growth and development of the next generation of toxicologists.
The current plans are to launch the system in Spring 2008, and updates will be provided through articles in the Communiqué and e-mail messages to the SOT Membership. This Subcommittee is chaired by Sri Nadadur and comprised of representatives from groups that will be the primary users of this system, including Christine Palermo, Postdoctoral Assembly Representative, and Prasad Krishnan, Graduate Student Representative. Other members of the Subcommittee who have initiated this effort include Claude McGowan, Chair, CRAD Committee; Elaine Knight, SOT Council Liaison to the CRAD Committee; and Ginger Moser, Liaison from the Women in Toxicology SIG Mentoring Committee.
The CRAD requests and strongly encourages members to share their professional knowledge and experience by serving as mentors for the next generation of toxicologists. This new on-line mentoring system will provide an opportunity for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows to access scientists who can provide guidance in identifying and navigating their career path.
