Who We Are
Graduate Student Leadership Committee
The Graduate Student Leadership Committee (GSLC) replaces the previous Student Advisory Council (SAC), as well as the RC/SIG Graduate Committee and the SS Graduate Committee. This Graduate Student organization is composed of one student representative from each of the RCs, SIGs and SSs. The elected GSLC Chair, GSLC Secretary, and three GSLC Subcommittee Chairs form the GSLC Executive Board.
Three Subcommittees comprise the GSLC: Communications, Professional Development, and Programming. Each Subcommittee includes an elected Chair and Secretary. Each student representative serving on the GSLC will belong to a Subcommittee. At the beginning of the officer year, the GSLC Chair will send a communication to all current Regional Chapter (RC), Specialty Section (SS), and Special Interest Group (SIG) Student Representatives describing each Subcommittee and asking for a rank of their Subcommittee preference.
The GSLC Subcommittees will handle all tactical details involved with the GSLC functions throughout the year.
Communications: Responsibilities will include the Graduate Student newsletter, the GSLC section of the Communiqué, posting messages on ToXchange, and the development of the Student Event Planner for the SOT Annual Meeting.
Professional Development: Responsibilities will include the development of student webinars throughout the year, as well as the joint Graduate Student/Postdoc scientific session at the SOT Annual Meeting.
Programming: Responsibilities will include coordinating programs and events at the SOT Annual Meeting—“Chat with an Expert/Postdoc/Grad Student,” and the Graduate Student/Postdoc Mixer.
One of the major goals of the GSLC is to play in integral role in advancing SOT’s Strategic Plan. The goals that GSLC has set as highest priority include increasing scientific impact, building for the future of toxicology, expanding and deepening member engagement, and strengthening organizational effectiveness. The GSLC works with specific objectives that are encompassed by these goals to further enhance the student services they provide.
