Lunch With An Expert

"Lunch with an Expert" for Students and Postdoctoral Fellows at the Annual Meeting

The Specialty Section Graduate Committee (SS-GC) is sponsoring "Lunch with an Expert" at the 2008 Annual Meeting in Seattle and we would like to invite your participation!

Expert Registration (Deadline: January 4, 2008)

Student and Postdoctoral Fellow Registration (Registration on-line is now closed. Please sign up at the Student Mixer in Seattle.)

The LWAE program provides a special opportunity at the SOT Annual Meeting for small groups of students and postdoctoral fellows to meet with Associate or Full SOT member Experts for informal discussion. This program provides students and postdoctoral fellows with a great opportunity to network and gain insights from seasoned toxicologists. Based on a survey of research interests during enrollment, groups of three students will be matched with suitable Expert volunteers from industry, academia, or government who are experienced in a wide variety of toxicological fields.

Participation in LWAE is not limited to a lunchtime meeting and it is up to the Expert to determine whether the group will meet for breakfast, dinner, or for a social hour! Based on participant feedback, the SS-GC has implemented an initiative this year whereby Experts are encouraged to contact the group prior to the meeting to set up a meeting time and place, as well as to learn a little about the participants before meeting face-to-face. After completing student and Expert matching during the month of February, Experts will be provided with a list of student e-mail addresses and a list of recommended questions to send to participants prior to the Annual Meeting.

While meal costs for the LWAE program are the responsibility of the participating individuals, we have compiled a list of restaurants within a few blocks of the convention center in Seattle that are reasonably priced. We have made every effort to ensure the affordability of the program based on the daily meal allowances of students.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact SS-GC Chairperson Alison Hege. Her e-mail address is available within the SOT Membership Directory (member-restricted). Nonmember students may send their questions via sothq@toxicology.org.

"Experts"

The Specialty Section Graduate Committee invites Associate and Full members of SOT to meet with a small group of students and postdoctoral fellows (approximately 3) for an informal discussion over lunch or other meal during a convenient time at the Annual Meeting. All you need to do is complete the registration form at the link below, indicating your areas of interest. You will be matched to students with similar interests. Before the Annual Meeting, the SS-GC will send you the e-mail addresses for members of your group so that you can communicate with your group and convey the date, time, and place of your meeting. We ask that the Experts inform the SS-GC of the meeting time so that we can display the information on our LWAE poster and calendar at the Annual Meeting.

Your participation will strengthen the networks within SOT and provide a valuable opportunity for discussion of scientific topics and career experiences.

The deadline for Expert registration was January 4, 2008.

Students and Postdoctoral Fellows

Students and postdoctoral fellows may sign up to participate in the Lunch with an Expert program by indicating their interests on the registration form linked below. The Expert will provide details to each participant in that group in advance of the Annual Meeting in late February/early March 2008.

If you log into the Web site with your password you will spared some data entry on the registration form; however, participation and registration access is not limited to those currently on the member rolls.

The deadline for student and postdoctoral fellow registration is February 1, 2008.
