Michael P. Holsapple

Experience: Dr. Holsapple is the Executive Director of International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) and Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI).  Prior to becoming the Executive Director, he was a Research Scientist and Technical Leader, Toxicology, Environmental Research and Consulting Laboratories at Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan.  From 1994 to 2002, he was on the faculty at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond where he advised eight Ph.D. and M.S. candidates.

Pfizer Global Research and Development

Experience: Dr. Cook is a Senior Director of Investigative Toxicology at Pfizer Inc. Before coming to Pfizer in 1998, he was Senior Research Toxicologist at DuPont-Haskell Laboratory for two years and before that, served as Postdoctoral Fellow, CIIT. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physiology in 1979 from the University of California, Davis and his Master’s degree in Toxicology from North Carolina State University in 1982. In 1985, Dr. Cook received his Ph.D. in Toxicology from North Carolina State University.

National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR)

Experience: Dr. Slikker is currently the Director of the U.S. FDA’s National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) and an Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacology & Toxicology at UAMS. He has served as President of the Teratology Society and the Academy of Toxicological Sciences. In addition, Dr. Slikker also has served on advisory panels for HESI/ILSI, CIIT, U.S. EPA, NIEHS, NIH, NAS, and WHO.


Lawrence R. Curtis

Experience: Dr. Curtis is the Associate Dean at the college of Agricultural Sciences and former Head of the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology at Oregon State University.  He is the mentor for 18 M.S. students, 11 Ph.D. students and 3 postdoctorals in toxicology.

Experience: Dr. Morris is Professor and Head, Pharmaceutical Sciences Department, and Assistant Dean for Research at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. His research focuses on inhalation dosimetry and quantitative inhalation risk assessment. He has served on editorial boards on Toxicological Sciences and Inhalation Toxicology and advisory panels for NIH, EPA, DOE, and NAS/NRC.

Experience: Dr. Goering is active in research in biomarkers of cell injury in kidney and liver, toxicity of metals, animal models of compromised health and the toxicology of nanomaterials. He consults with Food and Drug Administration staff on toxicology issues, and health-based risk assessments related to medical products. He lectures and collaborates with faculty and graduate students as Adjunct Professor, Toxicology Program, University of Maryland and the Department of Biological Sciences, The George Washington University.

Experience: Dr. Walker is the Ruth and Walter Sterling Professor Carcinogenesis, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is a Member of the Center for Molecular and Cellular Toxicology UT Austin and a Visiting Member, Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology, Texas A&M University. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor, College of Pharmacy, University of Texas-Austin and was previously a Staff Fellow at the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (1984-1988) and a Scientist at the CIIT Centers for Health Research (1988-1992).

Experience: Dr. Bogdanffy is currently Director, Regulatory Toxicology at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. Prior to this position he was Research Manager and Director of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology at DuPont. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology, a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Biology from Springfield College, received his Ph.D. in Toxicology from Northeastern University in 1984 and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the CIIT until 1986.

Experience: Dr. Borghoff is currently the Director of Investigative Toxicology at Integrated Laboratory Systems, Inc., a contract research and testing service organization in North Carolina. Prior to this position, she was a Senior Scientist at CIIT Centers for Health Research for 17 years where she studied the mode of actions by which environmental agents caused toxicity/cancer. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania in 1980, and a MSPH and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983 and 1987, respectively. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow from 1987–1989 at the CIIT Centers for Health Research.

Experience: Dr. Fox is a Professor of Vision Sciences, Biology and Biochemistry, and Pharmacology at the University of Houston. He also is a Keck Faculty Member of The Gulf Coast Consortia, and a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS) and of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Dr. Fox is President of the International Neurotoxicology Association, past President of the Neurotoxicology Specialty Section of SOT, and past Chair of Retinal Cell Biology Program Committee for ARVO. Dr. Fox is an Associate Editor of Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology 2002–Present, Associate Editor of Environmental Health Perspectives 2008–Present, Associate Editor of Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Toxicology 2004–Present, past Associate Editor of NeuroToxicology 1986–1996 and an Editorial Board Member of Cutaneous and Ocular Pharmacology 2005–Present and Molecular Vision 1995–Present. Dr. Fox received the Frank R. Blood Award from SOT in 1992 for the best paper published in TAAP, University of Houston Research Excellence Award in 1992, and Prominent Teaching Professor Awards at the University of Houston. He has served on National Toxicology Program Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods 2005–2009; NIH/FDA Advisory Panel on Ocular Toxicology for ICCVAM and NICETAM 2004–2006; National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council Committees on Vision and Safe Drinking Water 1982–1995; FDA Advisory Committees; NIEHS Study Sections for Toxicology, Minority and ARCH Grants, and Superfund Grants from 1994–2005. He has mentored 20+ Ph.D. and Master’s Students. Dr. Fox is the PI on NIH, NIOSH and private grants and has written over 75 peer–reviewed publications, book chapters, and technical reports.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)

Experience: Dr. Waalkes has worked for the National Cancer Institute from 1983–present. He was the recipient of the SOT Achievement Award in 1990. Dr. Waalkes serves on the Chief Inorganic Carcinogenesis Section from 1992–present and he is detailed to NIEHS from 1996–present. He has written 340 Publications and is Editor for TAAP from 2000–present. Dr. Waalkes has received a number of awards such as the NIH Merit Award in 2000, the special award for Outstanding Contributions to SOT in 2003, and the Metals Specialty Section Career Achievement Award in 2007. Dr. Waalkes was the Associate Editor of EHP from 2008–present and currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for CRT from 2009–present.

Experience: Deputy Director and Executive Director of SOT since 1991. President, Association Innovation and Management (AIM), an association management company providing administrative services to the toxicology community, including the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX), Teratology Society (TERA), Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS), Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS), Society of Toxicologic Pathology (STP), Environmental Mutagen Society (EMS) and the International Association of Environmental Mutagen Societies (IAEMS). She received her BIS in Business Communications, George Mason University, 1989.
