Lake Ontario Regional Chapter of the Society of Toxicology

Welcome to the Lake Ontario Regional Chapter of the Society of Toxicology!

President’s Message

Greetings Lake Ontario SOT Members,

Our mission is to provide a forum for the interaction and professional networking of toxicologists in Ontario and Western New York. Ours is the only bi-national Chapter with a boundary encompassing nine or more universities or colleges that offer toxicology-related programs and one that includes the government headquarters of Environment Canada and Health Canada in Ottawa.

This year our Executive resides on both sides of the border and represents a balance of academics, regulators and consultants. (BTW if you know a post-doc who might be interested in joining, please have them get in touch).

Our main goals this year are to expand the membership base, establish links with other organizations (such as SETAC, and the Canadian Toxicology Society) and to promote local level activities such as seminars and pub nights.

This year the Executive is trying a pilot project, with SOT‘s endorsement, to directly sponsor candidates for Associate or Full SOT membership. SOT has a history of doing this through the Speciality Sections however we observed that our chapter is large and far flung making it challenging for candidates to locate sponsors. I will circulate the details as we fine-tune the process, but if you know a co-worker or colleague facing this difficulty please have them contact Rosibel Alvarenga in the Membership Department at SOT.

If you have any ideas for advancing the goals of the chapter, or would like to become more involved please do not hesitate to contact me. I also hope to also see you at the joint Allegheny-Erie, Michigan and Lake Ontario Reception next year in San Antonio.
