Attention all Trainees!

Award Applications:

Award Title President's Award for Research Competition (PARC) 
Award Description To be eligible, you must be a postdoctoral fellow with no more than 5 years postdoctoral experience, and a member of the North Carolina SOT Regional Chapter. You may join when you submit your abstract ($10/year). The winner will receive a cash award and the opportunity to present their research in a 15-minute talk at the Annual NC SOT meeting. Runners-up will also receive a cash award. To apply:

1. Submit an extended abstract of your research. The data must be either unpublished, submitted, accepted, in press, or published in the current year or the past year. The extended abstract should reflect your own current, first-author data. (Please check with your co-authors before submitting your abstract.) Submit your abstract as a Microsoft Word document, single-spaced using 12 point Times New Roman font. The total length of the extended abstract must be no more than 2 pages, including any figure/table and references. Abstracts will be judged on methodology/approach, uniqueness/creativity, thoroughness of investigation, soundness of judgment used in interpreting results, and relevance.

2. Have your mentor send an accompanying email approving the submission.

3. Both the abstract and the mentor letter must be received by Cynthia Rider by Friday, September 14, 2018. For questions, please contact any NC SOT officer.

You will receive notification of your abstract’s status no later than Monday, October 1, 2018. If NOT selected, you will automatically be entered into the Poster Competition unless you do not wish to present a poster at the NC SOT annual meeting.

Award Title Poster Presentation Competition 
Award Description Undergraduate, Graduate Student, Post-Baccalaureate, and Postdoctoral NCSOT members are invited to present posters and be judged for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Poster Awards (cash prizes!). You must be a NC SOT member in good standing to compete. You may join when you submit your abstract ($10/year). Please email Sky Reece your poster title, authors, affiliations, and abstract by September 14. The abstract must be submitted as a 1 page Microsoft Word document, single-spaced using 12 point Times New Roman font, with 1 inch margins (please no PDFs). Please write “Poster Competition” in the subject line of your email.

Award Title Graduate Student Platform Presentation Award 
Award Description Four selected graduate students will have the opportunity to have a platform presentation judged for the Best Student Platform Award. From submitted abstracts, members of the NC SOT Executive Committee will select up to four students to give platform presentations (15 min PowerPoint presentation; 12 min with 3 min of questions) at the Annual NC SOT Meeting. All platform presentations will be judged and one presenter will be selected to receive the Best Student Platform Award (cash prize!). You must be an NC SOT student member to have your abstract selected and platform presentation judged. You may join when you submit your abstract ($10/year). Please follow SOT abstract guidelines (http://www.toxicology.org/events/abstract/submit.asp).

Please email Kelly Shipkowski your platform title, authors, affiliations, and abstract by September 14. The abstract must be submitted as a 1 page Microsoft Word document, single-spaced using 12 point Times New Roman font, with 1 inch margins (please no PDFs). Please write “Student Platform Competition” in the subject line of your email. Abstracts selected for platform presentations will demonstrate outstanding clarity in methodology/approach, uniqueness/creativity, thoroughness of investigation, soundness of judgment in interpreting results, and relevance. If NOT selected, you will automatically be entered into the Poster Competition unless you do not wish to present a poster at the NC SOT annual meeting.
