Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where she works on the in vitro toxicological evaluation of metal oxide nanoparticles employed as part of medical devices. Her research experience also includes the synthesis, characterization and biological in vitro activity evaluation of inorganic and polymeric nanomaterials containing active ingredients employed in medicine. Dr. Palacios worked previously as postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (JHU, 2014–2016), and in the Department of Food and Chemical Engineering at Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP, 2014), Mexico, as nanotoxicology specialist. She also was assistant professor at Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP, 2010–2014), where she coordinated different research projects in nanomedicine and mentored undergraduate and master students. Dr. Palacios obtained her Bachelor in Agronomic Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala in 2005, a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from UDLAP in 2007 and her Doctoral Degree in Chemical Sciences (major in Inorganic Chemistry) from the Benemerita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), Mexico, in 2012. She performed several research fellowships at the Centre for Cell Engineering, University of Glasgow, UK (2009), at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, US (2011), and at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, MD, US (2012), where she specialized on novel in vitro methods to determine cell viability after nanoparticle exposure. She has presented her research projects in 30 conferences in Mexico and the United States, and she has published six papers on peer-reviewed journals and ten publications in extenso. She has been recognized in Mexico as part of National System of Researchers (SNI level 1) since September 2013.
