NCAC-SOT Student Day Symposium

Presentations have become a significant part of a graduate student and post doc’s life.  Ranging from a poster presentation in the professional conference, an oral presentation in the classroom or a professional symposium, to the proposal defense, thesis/dissertation defense, and the presentation in an interview, an effective presentation is not only about what you know, but also about what you say in a limited time and how you say it.  In this Student Day, experts will share their secrets of an effective presentation, from how to make a great poster, how to get your points across (and how to chose your main points), all the way to how to answer the sometimes unpredictable questions thrown at you after your presentation. You will also know how the judges and employers evaluate your presentation for considering awards and hiring.  Most importantly, you can make a presentation and get instant evaluations and suggestions from the panel of experts.  Students and post docs who do not wish to make presentations at this time are still encouraged to participate in the afternoon session and learn from others.  This is a unique opportunity for graduate students and post docs in any stage of their study and developing career to improve their presentations.  A reception for graduate students and post docs will be held in the same room at 5:30 PM. Light refreshments will be provided in this non-alcohol event.
