Dear All, 2012 marks the SOT Northern California ‘NorCal’ Regional Chapter’s 25-Year “Silver” Anniversary. I am pleased to introduce our incoming 2011–2012 Officers: Jeffrey S. Tepper (Vice President), Sushmita Chanda (Vice President-Elect), Veronique Lauriault (Secretary), Karen Riveles (Treasurer), Tao Wang (Past President), Mark R. Fielden and Luoping H. Zhang (Councilors), and student representatives Brandon M. Gaytan (UC Berkeley, Sr. Student Representative) and Christopher Carosino (UC Davis, Jr. Student Representative). The NorCal SOT Chapter continues to be very active in member and outreach activities with our NorCal SOT Newsletter, twice annual one-day Regional Symposia which include “Lunch with an Expert” events, “Toxicology Career Day” with experienced toxicologists interacting with trainees at regional universities, “Career Building” brunches, and “Preclinical Drug Safety Networking” events. 2012 is the year that the National SOT Annual Meeting comes to San Francisco. As the regional chapter host, NorCal SOT is deeply involved coordinating the K–12 Educational Outreach Event: “What do Snow White, Romeo and Juliet, and the Madhatter have in Common?... Toxicology!” to be held at The Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, Berkeley and sponsoring/chairing two Regional Interest Symposia: “Bridging the Green Chemistry Gap between Product Discovery and Availability” and “What’s the Buzz: Bee Health and California’s Agricultural Industry.” Our NorCal SOT annual meeting reception is scheduled for Monday evening where we will present the NorCal SOT Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Best Abstract Awards and the NorCal SOT Undergraduate Student Travel Award. NorCal SOT exists for its members. As your 2011–2012 President, I encourage all NorCal SOT members to be involved, attend, volunteer, participate, become Board member, and do what you can to continue growing and building our Chapter.
