2010 Spring Meeting

May 6, 2010

NorCal SOT will be hosting a Spring Meeting on Drug Development: From Small Molecules to Biologics on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at SRI International (333 Ravenswood Avenue, Menlo Park, CA 94025).

Registration is $25 for NorCal SOT members, $35 for nonmembers and FREE for students/postdocs. Students are encouraged to bring posters documenting their research and will receive $50 for doing so. Students may have their posters printed by contacting Steve Dizio. All attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Lunch with an Expert program. The meeting is generously sponsored by BioReliance, Corp., California Department of Toxic Substances Control, ChanTest Corp., Charles River Laboratories, Comparative Biosciences, Covance, Genentech, ITR Laboratories, Inc., LAB Research, Inc., MPI Research Inc., Novartis, and SRI International.

Reception at Annual Meeting

March 9, 2010

NorCal SOT members are invited to a reception hosted by NorCal SOT during the SOT Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City. The reception is Tuesday, March 9 from 6:30 PM–9:00 PM, with awards presented at 7:30 PM, and will be held at Squatters Pub and Brewery (147 West Broadway, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101). Squatters is only two blocks south of the Annual Meeting venue. Please view the flyer for a map.

2009 Fall Symposium

October 8, 2009

Save the date! The Society of Toxicology’s Northern California Chapter will hold its Fall Symposium October 8, 2009, at the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment in Oakland, California.  The topics are (1) the benefits and future effects of nanomaterials in our society and (2) biological equivalents in predicting toxic doses to humans.

2009 Spring Symposium

The NorCal Chapter held their Spring Symposium on Target Organ Toxicity with an Emphasis on Hepatotoxicity on April 23, 2009, at Amgen in South San Francisco. The symposium was a huge success, with 133 attendees, including 7 wonderful speakers, 22 generous sponsors (a big thanks to Amgen for hosting the event and providing meals, and sincere thanks to BioReliance, Frontier BioSciences, Comparative BioSciences, Pacific BioLabs, Charles River, SRI, and ITR for sponsoring the event), and 27 students who presented 12 posters; the poster award went to Christopher Carosino of University of California, Davis.


Attention NorCal Student and Postdoctoral Members!

If you are a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow, consider applying for the 2009 NorCal SOT Young Investigator Award. To participate in the NorCal SOT Young Investigator Award competition, membership in NorCal SOT is required (membership is free for students and post-docs). Each award winner will receive a $500 cash award from NorCal SOT Regional Chapter. To be considered, each candidate, whose abstract has been accepted by the SOT for presentation at the 2009 Annual Meeting, must submit: (1) a copy of the abstract, (2) a letter (1 page maximum) discussing the significance and potential impact of the work on toxicology, and (3) a letter of support from your major advisor. The deadline for submission of applications will be January 30, 2009. We encourage all interested graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to consider submitting their abstract for consideration. Full applications should be submitted to Tao Wang.

Call for Applications:
Northern California SOT 2007 Young Investigators Award

The Northern California Chapter of the Society of Toxicology will be awarding two $500 scholarships to an undergraduate, graduate student or post-doc attending a University or College in the Northern California area to attend the Society of Toxicology meetings in Seattle in March 2008. Applicants must be members of the Northern California SOT Chapter (membership is free for students and post-docs) and have a poster or presentation accepted for the 2008 annual meeting of the Society of Toxicology.

The Application consists of submitting a cover letter and copy of the accepted abstract to George Alexeeff, at galexeef@oehha.ca.gov by 12/01/07. The NorCal Awards Committee will review the abstracts and awards will be issued on January 15, 2008.
