The Southeastern Chapter of the Society of Toxicology is a regional member of the Society of Toxicology.  The purpose of SESOT is to promote communication between toxicologists in the Southeast region as well as to serve as a resource for lay, students, and professionals interested in the field and the subject.  We seek to serve as the focal point for toxicological interests in the region, encourage interactions among toxicologists in government, industry, and academia, and sponsor scientific and educational programs in toxicology related subjects.  Member states include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.  This page contains links to current officers and the national Society of Toxicology, membership information, and information as to events scheduled within the chapter.

News from the President

On behalf of the Southeastern Regional Chapter of the Society of Toxicology, I would like to extend my thanks to all of those that attended this year’s meeting. The 22nd Annual Symposium was held on October 8 on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, GA. The theme of this year’s meeting was “The Environment and Neurodegeneration.” I would also like to thank several groups for providing financial assistance, including the Society of Toxicology for providing travel support for Dr. Orrenius, the Emory Toxicology Program under the Molecular and Systems Pharmacology Program, LI-COR“ Biosciences for sponsoring lunch during the poster session. I also wanted to thank the invited speakers: Dr. Phil Williams from the University of Georgia, Dr. Bin Liu from the University of Florida, Dr. Jeff Johnson from the University of Wisconsin, and Dr. Sten Orrenius from the Karolinska Institute.

Representatives from every state and in the Southeastern Region participated in this year’s event. The postdocs and students did an excellent job presenting their work (we had over 25 student and postdoc presenters). Please help me congratulate the following individual who were recognized for their work. Poster: 1st David Arrington-MUSC, 2nd Cecily Hamill-Emory University, 3rd Catrina Sims-Auburn, 3rd Renee Wong-MUSC.
