Postdoctoral Fellowship—US EPA

Title: Development of Translatable Biomarkers and Alternative Testing Methods Predictive of Chemical Cardiovascular Toxicity
US Environmental Protection Agency
National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

Cardiovascular toxicity and disease has been associated with exposure to a variety of chemicals and pollutants. Recently, the World Health Organization reported the global contribution or impact of chemicals on cardiovascular disease at 16% reflecting an estimated 2.5 million deaths/year. However, current national and international harmonized test guidelines lack methods to assess cardiovascular toxicity. Therefore, a high degree of uncertainty exists for cardiovascular toxicity of chemicals regulated by the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals legislation. A three year postdoctoral fellowship is available to determine the effects which chemicals, including engineered nanoscale chemicals, have on the cardiovascular system. Research will employ in vivo, ex vivo and/or in vitro methods to assess cardiovascular toxicity and altered function. The overall objective of the research is to develop translatable biomarkers and qualified testing methods to predict in vivo chemical cardiovascular toxicity. Candidates with experience in cardiovascular cell, molecular and/or physiology, especially ex vivo heart and/or cardiovascular perfusion approaches are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must be US citizens or have permanent residence US immigration status. Applications should include cover letter, describing relevant expertise and research interests, resume, as well as names and contact information for three individuals capable of providing letters of recommendation. Applications should be addressed and emailed to:
