II. Activities
2006-2007 Meetings:
The Fall 2006 Symposium/Annual Meeting was held on December 11, 2006, at Lister Hill Auditorium in Bethesda, MD. The title of the symposium was “Computational Toxicology.” Approximately 120 people from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC were in attendance. A short business meeting took place at noon during the lunch break. No minutes were taken.
The NCAC Annual Student Day Symposium was held on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Campus, Catonsville, MD. The title of the symposium was "Life After Grad School: Career Opportunities for Toxicologists." Approximately 50 students were in attendance.
The NCAC awarded travel money to University of Virginia toxicology graduate students to attend the Student Day Symposium.
The Spring 2007 Symposium/Annual Meeting was held on May 23, 2007 at Lister Hill Auditorium on the NIH Campus. The title of the symposium was “The Role of Inflammation in Toxicity.” Approximately 100 people from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC were in attendance.
The spring symposium had a student poster session competition. The following awards were given:
Postdoctoral Awards:
1st place poster – Dr. Rosemary Schuh – $350
2nd place poster – Dr. Steven Yee – $250
Graduate Student Awards:
1st place poster – Neal Burton – $350
2nd place poster – Devon Graham – $250
3rd place poster – Pergentino Balbuena – $150
Travel Awards to the 2007 National SOT meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina
NCAC had a competition for travel awards for graduate and post-doctoral students to attend the SOT National Meeting.
The following Bern Schwetz Travel Awards were given:
Postdoctoral Awards:
1st place poster – Dr. Christopher Toscano- $500
2nd place poster – Dr. Yu Zhang- $350
3rd place posters- Dr. Rosemary Schuh- $200, Dr. Zhen Quan Jia- $200, Dr. Susan McKarns- $200
Graduate Student Awards:
1st place poster – Ming Kai Chen-$500
2nd place poster- April Neal-$350
K-12 Activities
NCAC-SOT Board members judged posters and presented cash awards for excellence in environmental/toxicological sciences at three local public school county science fairs.
