Applicants: Please upload the requested application materials. The application includes the application form, budget sheet, and a description of the proposed work, and supporting documents. Budget Sheet: The total award amount to the recipient is up to $44,000 annually. The stipend from this source of funding is up to $39,000 annually, plus $2,000 travel funding to attend the SOT Annual Meeting and present the work the Spring subsequent to the award, plus the remainder to accommodate the 8% institutional overhead. Note: while the travel funds are an option in the budget, the expectation is stated that the work will be presented at the SOT Annual Meeting. The awardee may receive supplemental support from other sources. The description of the research to be performed will, in not more than three pages, include the specific aims of the research, and a description of their relevance to the development of nonanimal methods for safety assessment. Any relevance to dermal or ocular toxicity end points should be addressed. Preliminary data in support of the application may be included in an Appendix. A brief section addressing the career goals of the applicant should also be included. These letters must address the scientific background, originality, proficiency, and independent research capability of the candidate. Dates of association and the nature of the association with the applicant should be defined. One letter is from the doctoral advisor. Another is from the prospective postdoctoral advisor, who should address the applicant's research potential and describe the nature and extent of the commitment of research or other institutional resources to the applicant. The amount, duration and source(s) of research support of the postdoctoral advisor relative to the candidate's application must be indicated, and relevant resources available at the awardee institution should be described. The Colgate-Palmolive Company sponsors the Colgate-Palmolive Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in In Vitro
Toxicology through the Society of Toxicology to advance the development of alternatives to animal testing in toxicological research. The award is given annually and includes stipend and research-related costs (up to $44,000) for one year. Postdoctoral trainees in their first year of study beyond the PhD, MD, or DVM degree who are at academic institutions, federal/national laboratories, or research institutes worldwide may apply. The award application deadline is October 9 of the year prior to the year in which the fellowship is awarded.
The award consists of a plaque and fellowship funds.
Criteria for award:
- Postdoctoral trainees employed by academic institutions, federal/national laboratories, or research institutes
- Doctoral degree must have been conferred before this fellowship is awarded
- Preference will be given to applicants in their first year of postdoctoral study
- Applicant or postdoctoral advisor must be a member or pending member of the Society. If the recipient is not a member, he or she will be required to submit a membership application before the fellowship is conferred
- Proposed research should involve in vitro or animal alternative methods
- Potential of the proposed work to contribute to the advancement of the field of alternatives
