Women in Toxicology SIG Smith and Hook Distinguished Service Award

Deadline: October 18

Dr. Jacqueline Smith and Dr. Jerry Hook, long time members of SOT and supporters of WIT's missions, generously contributed to the Celebrating Women in Toxicology Endowment Fund. Their gift crystalized the fund and enabled the establishment of the Smith and Hook Distinguished Service Award. This award honors an individual for their long-term dedication to promote career development opportunities and recognition of the accomplishments of women toxicologists, and for their service and longstanding support to the SOT and/or WIT Special Interest Group (e.g., officer, committee member, volunteer, etc.).

Peer- and self-nominations are both welcomed. Nominees must have:

  • Full or Emeritus SOT membership status

Required application components (listed below) should detail the nominee’s significant contributions to Women in Toxicology (service to SOT and/or WIT, promoting WIT’s missions, supporting WIT’s activities, etc.). These criteria, with others listed below, are used in the award selection process.

  • Summary of the candidate’s contributions, and the impact on promoting the missions of WIT
  • At least two, but no more than three, letters of recommendation describing the nominees significant contributions to women in the field of toxicology and service to SOT/WIT
  • Curriculum vitae

The awardee will receive a plaque and monetary award.

All aspects of the award application must be sent to as a single PDF file. The name of the award must be indicated in the title field. The application must be received by the deadline or the applicant will not be considered for the award.

Applications will remain on file and be considered for 3 consecutive years. Applicants are encouraged to update their application during this period.
