Molecular and Systems Biology SS Molecular and Systems Biology SS Undergraduate Research Award

The Molecular and Systems Biology Specialty Section (MSBSS) is pleased to request submissions for the MSBSS Undergraduate Student Research Award. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students at an accredited institution and hold undergraduate affiliate status in SOT by the time of the meeting. Awardees must also attend the undergraduate program on the first day of the 2020 SOT Annual Meeting. Trainees with less than one year of post-baccalaureate research experience may also apply.
Applications should include:
1.) A PDF document submitted by the applicant that includes a copy of the abstract that they submitted for the upcoming SOT Annual Meeting and a two-page narrative that contains a paragraph on the problem the research addresses and the hypothesis of the work; a paragraph on the methods used and main findings of the work; a paragraph on the major conclusions and relevance to the field of Molecular and Systems Biology Toxicology; and a paragraph explicitly stating the applicant’s direct contributions to the conception of the idea, experimental design, and execution and analyses of the data represented in the abstract. Data or research design visualizations that help convey the research are highly encouraged. The narrative should be formatted in single spaced 11-point Times New Roman font with one-inch margins. A reference section is not required.
2.) A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s advisor, which should be submitted directly by the advisor. The letter should include statements regarding the applicant’s direct contributions the conception of the idea, experimental design, and execution and analyses of the data represented in the abstract.
At least one award will be given and the winner will receive a $250 award and an engraved plaque at the MSBSS reception during the SOT Annual Meeting.
Applications will be judged on their relevance and novelty to molecular or systems toxicology, logic and flow, hypothesis, approach, experimental methods or model, results, discussion of findings, and the advisor letter.
