Toxicology Career Map Virtual Workshop

Hosted by the Midwest and Northern California Regional Chapters (endorsed by SOT Education and Career Development Committee)

Date: Friday, October 1, 2021
Time: 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM CDT / 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM PDT

This workshop is free. Registration is required. Please register here.

This virtual career workshop is a collaborative career event that is organized by Midwest and Northern California Regional Chapters and endorsed by the SOT Education and Career Development Committee to provide insights to students, postdocs, and early career toxicologists for career opportunities within toxicology.

Four speakers with diverse backgrounds and expertise from varied fields of toxicology (academic, government, industry, contract research organizations) will share their personal journeys with workshop attendees. Speakers will mentor attendees on how to approach jobs in their respective fields, build necessary skill sets, and highlight the challenges and opportunities about each career path. This will be followed by a panel discussion where attendees can interact with each speaker and ask questions.

Following the panel, we will present exclusive talks from a ToxMSDT mentor (on scholarship opportunities in toxicology), an SOT CDI committee speaker (about diversity and inclusion in toxicology, focusing on opportunities for underrepresented populations), and a career coach (about building skill sets for career exploration challenges).

This workshop will provide an excellent opportunity for students and trainees to explore new career path opportunities and enhance understanding about new roles.

Workshop Outline:

Section 1:

  • Government: Kristen Ryan, PhD (NTP)
  • Academia: Courtney Carignan, PhD (Michigan State University)
  • Industry: Doris Zane, PhD, DABT (Gilead)
  • CRO: Andy Vick, PhD (CRL)
