Maryanne Stock Student research Award

Maryanne Stock Student Research Award

In 2001, the charter members and the leadership of the Allegheny-Erie Society of Toxicology recognized the need for continued encouragement and assistance to support toxicology research and they established the Maryanne Stock Student Research Award. Originally named the A-E SOT Graduate Student Award, the Maryanne Stock Student Research Award is celebrating its 20th year of recognizing the contributions of its eponymous honoree in 2021.

Maryanne was a charter member of A-E SOT at its founding in 1988 and served for 10 years as secretary and treasurer. Working for 20 years in Dr. Yves Alarie’s lab at the University of Pittsburgh, Maryanne’s dedication to the advancement of A-E SOT graduate students was renowned and led to friendships that she maintains to this day. This award was established in recognition of her continued dedicated service to the growth and development of A-E-SOT and to celebrate her spirit as a friend of the students. Over the years, Maryanne’s legacy has continued with the award and has supported numerous undergraduate and graduate students’ toxicology research projects.

The 2024–2025 honoree is Baoli Qian. Baoli is a graduate student in the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh in Prof. Aaron Barchowsky’s lab. Baoli’s project is entitled “The Impact of Prenatal Arsenic Exposure on Offspring Skeletal Muscle Integrity and Metabolic Health.”

Congratulations to Baoli Qian and we wish her best of luck in her ongoing research!
