South Central Chapter—SOT
Welcome to the South Central Chapter-SOT website. The South Central Chapter (SCC) of SOT serves academic, government, and industrial toxicologists throughout the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and western Tennessee. Established in 1982, the SCC’s mission is to foster scientific exchange among those in the region involved in toxicological research and teaching plus its application to human and environmental risk assessment. Further communication among SCC membership is achieved through publication of a biannual SCC Newsletter, which includes notices of regional seminars, position announcements, and news of professional accomplishments of SCC members plus opted pieces on contemporary toxicological issues and communications from the national SOT. President’s Message Welcome to the South Central Chapter of the Society of Toxicology (SCC-SOT)! Our chapter connects toxicologists across Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, bringing together colleagues from academia, government, and industry to advance toxicology through scientific exchange, education, and collaboration. Thank you for entrusting me with the opportunity to serve as your president. My goal is to help build a chapter where members feel welcome, contribute their ideas, and find opportunities to grow. I believe leadership means creating opportunities for others, encouraging initiative, and helping people recognize and develop their potential. Each time I attend our regional meeting, I am struck by the excellent research taking place at nearby institutions. These meetings remind me how much we can learn from our neighbors and how many opportunities for collaboration are close to home. A particular priority is supporting our students and postdoctoral fellows. Our regional meeting gives early-career scientists an opportunity to present their work, ask questions, and build relationships beyond their own institutions. We want the program to reflect the breadth of toxicology across our region and encourage conversations among researchers with different backgrounds and perspectives. Together with the leadership team, I welcome your ideas for scientific programs, mentoring, and other chapter activities. Whether you are a longtime member or attending your first meeting, your participation helps shape our chapter. Thank you for being part of SCC-SOT.
