Message from the President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I hope this letter finds you all in good health and spirits. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to meet many of you in Nashville. The RASS mixer was a great chance for me to catch up with old friends, make new ones, and learn about your cutting-edge work and dedication to advancing science-based risk assessment. For me, this year marked my first return to the Annual Meeting since 2019, and I am deeply grateful to our RASS family for making it such an inspiring and heartwarming experience.

As the RASS President for the 2023–2024 term, I would like to express my gratitude for your unwavering support, active participation, and steadfast commitment to RASS. Your invaluable contributions are the driving force behind the RASS Executive Committee (EC). The EC members, including Daniele Wikoff (Past President), Bernard Gadagbui (Vice President), Anne Loccisano (Vice President-Elect), Katy Goyak (Secretary/Treasurer), Kim Zaccaria (Senior Councilor), Sarah Burnett (Junior Councilor), Anna Kreutz (Postdoctoral Representative), Alyssa Bellomo (Student Representative) and I, have already completed our first task, which was pre-proposal review for the 2024 Scientific Sessions. We are excited to see many high-quality proposals that address the specific needs in risk assessment. We are looking forward to reviewing and endorsing them.

In addition to conducting the proposal review, the EC is currently updating the RASS website and organizing this year’s RASS Webinar Series with the help of our coordinator, Annie Jarabek. Annie has been serving in this pivotal position for almost two decades, and we are very grateful for her continued dedication to RASS. If you have any suggestions for topics or speakers, please reach out to any of the EC members or Annie. We also welcome proposals for joint webinars from other specialty sections. RASS webinars are held from Fall through Spring, generally on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. If you cannot participate in any of the live RASS webinars, links to the past webinar slides and recordings are available on the RASS website. The registration for several webinars is now open on our website, and we encourage all members to take advantage of this training opportunity or share it with their mentees. We thank the organizing committee and speakers for making this training event possible. We also value your feedback and would like to encourage you to suggest other risk assessment topics.

In closing, I hope you will consider ways to become more involved with RASS activities, such as contributing to the Endowment Fund, serving on the Endowment Fund Committee or the RASS Syllabus Committee, running for an EC officer position, being a speaker, or volunteering to assist in the award selection process or at the Annual Meeting. If you are interested in volunteering, please send your contact information to our volunteer coordinator, Alea Goodmanson, who has been a valuable volunteer for many years herself. Please reach out to any of the EC members with any suggestions or questions. You can also follow RASS on LinkedIn as an additional means of communication and involvement. We are here to serve you and make RASS the best community it can be. Thank you for your continued support and participation.

Best regards,

Cecilia Tan, MBA, PhD
