Dr. Ana Juan-García is Associate Professor of Toxicology in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Public Health, Food Science, Toxicology and Forensic Medicine at University of Valencia (UV), Spain. She holds a degree in Pharmacy from UV, and received her International European PhD (PhD summa cum laude, University of Valencia) in Food Science with training in Universities from Italy and Ireland by achieving training grants from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. She was Postdoctoral Fellow at Purdue University (IN, USA) as Postdoc Researcher in Bindley Bioscience Center – Purdue Cytometry Laboratories (BIND-PUCL). She was Visiting Scholar at Harvard University (MA, USA) via the Real Colegio Complutense-Harvard University with research tasks of mycotoxins in neurodevelopment. Her involvement in the European Alliance FORTHEM, made to be awarded by University of Jyväskylä in Finland as a Visiting Fellow Grant where she studied the implications of mycotoxins in the environment. Recently in 2022, she has been Invited Researcher at the prestigious Spanish Center for Research in Cancer (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas – CNIO) in Madrid (Spain) studying mycotoxins in several breast cancer cells.
Prof. Juan-García focuses most of her research in toxic effects of contaminant compounds present in food and feed, and more specifically with mycotoxins. To highlight that her research effort is addressed on evaluating mycotoxins toxicity and risk assessment through majorly in vitro but also in vivo assays by using different techniques and biological models. All this has brought her to publish more than 65 articles and participate in more than 150 posters, presentations and communications at national and international conferences and to serve as Guest Editor in Special Issues. She is co-author of several scientific publications on ISI-indexed international journals with an H-index 25 and 1843 citations.
During her career development, Dr. Juan-García has been involved in different leadership experiences that built onto her leading and administrative qualities. She was co-founder of the PPDA-Purdue Postdoctoral Association where she served as a counselor for two years. She serves as Purdue Alumni Ambassador in Spain since 2014. She has been participating as tutor for ERASMUS students and professors in Faculty of Pharmacy at University of Valencia. She has participated as expert in science and toxicology in High Schools inside the STEM initiative carried at UV as GIRLS4STEM-UV. She has been member of Spanish Society of Toxicology (AETOX) since 2002, where she had the opportunity to serve in several conferences and meetings as speaker or in Scientific Committees. She organized the First Summer School of Food Science Lab for the European FORTHEM-Alliance. She is member of European Society of Toxicology In Vitro (ESTIV) and Society of Toxicologist (SOT) (Full member). She is also member of Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists (HOT) since 2010 and involved indirectly as active member for it. She is a passionate for her work and has the enthusiasm of printing her passion and energy to serve in HOT, for its benefit and the broad community of toxicologist with Hispanic / Ibero-American / Portuguese / Spanish origin.‹ Return
