Dr. Ruiz is chief of the Simulation Science Section/Office of Analytics and Innovation at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Her responsibilities and assignments include creating strategies, setting goals, collaborating with Agency leadership on science, modeling, and advanced technologies for the Agency, and keeping abreast of the state-of-the-art computational tools and innovative methods to support the Agency’s efforts on site-specific public health assessments, toxicological profiles, emergency response, epidemiological and exposure investigations, and applied research. Dr. Ruiz received her doctorate from Georgia State University in 2002 and her Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Cartagena, Colombia. Dr. Ruiz has served on several workgroups at the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM) and collaborates with national and international research and academic groups. She is the author of 50+ publications, including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and has presented her research findings at national and international meetings or conferences. She mentors and coaches several interns, fellows, and students’ projects and activities related to computational and biological modeling, risk assessment, and toxicology. Dr. Ruiz has served as co-chair for the NCEH/ATSDR Diversity and Inclusion Council and as a member of several professional organizations, such as the Society of Toxicology (SOT). She is currently serving at SOT as Past President of the Biological Modeling Specialty Section, counselor in the Computational Toxicology specialty section, and counselor in the Hispanic Organization of Toxicology. Dr. Ruiz is a powerful force in the workplace and uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others to work hard and succeed.
