Career Resource Hub

About the Career Resource Hub

SOT recognizes that career advancement, mentoring, and networking are three distinct, although related, activities that are essential for continued growth and career success. This hub offers tips and tools for enhancing your skills in these areas.

Career Advancement

Career Advancement is a lifelong process of managing learning, leisure, work, and transitions to move toward a personally determined and evolving preferred future. It involves the continuous acquisition and refinement of skills, knowledge, awareness, and experiences that help individuals progress in their careers.

This event is designed for SOT members from graduate students through established career toxicologists to interact with individuals from various fields to learn about SOT career resources and gain foundational tips on career advancement.

A banner containing the phrase SOT Learning Library appears along the top and includes icons for continuing education, webinars, and lectures. Along the bottom is text and three buttons.

The Society of Toxicology (SOT) is dedicated to providing opportunities and resources to help toxicologists keep their skills sharp, learn new techniques, and stay competitive in the field. The SOT Learning Library contains Continuing Education courses, webinars, lectures, and more, designed to assist toxicologists at all career stages.

The goal of the In Vitro Toxicology Lecture series is to feature important research using in vitro and alternative techniques to study basic mechanisms and to develop test methods aimed at replacing animal use whenever feasible.

Since 1988, the Society of Toxicology has been conducting a toxicology salary survey every few years to keep abreast of employment changes in the field.

SOT distributes hundreds of awards throughout the year to all career levels. Some awards require a nomination, while others involve an application.

Mentoring

Mentoring is an enduring relationship in which two individuals can mutually benefit from each other’s skills, experience, and knowledge. The mentor provides advice, support, and feedback to help the mentee develop their skills, knowledge, and confidence and can benefit by improving their leadership skills, gain new insights on a topic area, and create a legacy in the field of toxicology. The mentee is the individual seeking or benefiting from guidance, support, and skill development. This relationship is often long-term and focuses on the personal and professional growth of the mentee.

Mentorship Lounge

Locating a quiet and available space for mentors and mentees to meet can be a challenge for Annual Meeting attendees. The SOT Career Advancement, Mentoring, and Networking (CAMAN) Committee hosts a room for this purpose.

Networking

Networking is the process of establishing and maintaining a web of professional relationships. The goal of networking is to create a support system of contacts who can provide information, advice, and opportunities. Networking is more about mutual benefit and exchange of information rather than a one-way guidance relationship.

NetworX Night

This speed-networking opportunity is for trainees to meet diverse professionals in toxicology, increase networks, and explore career paths and career-change options. Hosted by CAMAN in partnership with Component Groups, the table hosts represent different career sectors (e.g., academia, consulting, government, industry).

Student/Postdoctoral Mixer

The Mixer is an opportunity for all students and postdoctoral scholars to gather, meet new colleagues, and reestablish relationships in an informal atmosphere at the beginning of the meeting.

Postdoctoral Assembly Luncheon

The Postdoctoral Assembly Luncheon encourages engagement and networking among postdoctoral scholars.

Career Exploration for Speed Networking

Graduate students and postdocs gain insight into different toxicology careers through short, informal conversations with toxicology professionals.

Register for the Annual Meeting
SOT Regional Chapters, Special Interest Groups, and Specialty Sections host networking activities at the SOT Annual Meeting, at their meetings, and as special events.
